Buprenorphine (BUP)

Buprenorphine is a potent analgesic and it is used in the treatment of opiate abuse. It is sold under the trade names 'Subutex', 'Buprenex' and 'Temgesic' and it is metabolized to various compounds including Nor-buprenorphine. On-the-spot Buprenorphine detection is important in drug dependency clinics where doctors and staff want immediate confirmation that patients are complying with their treatment. The alternative is laboratory-based evaluation, which can take a matter of days.
