FAQ - Safety Lancet
How is the Safety Lancet Armed?
No arming is
required to use our Safety Lancet. There is
nothing to push, pull or turn. Simply remove the protective
cap and the lancet is ready to use.
What makes the Safety Lancet safe?
The needle
is self-contained both before and after the use of the Safety
Lancet. The needle automatically retracts back into the device
after testing and the lancet cannot be used again.
When
testing some elderly and oncology patients I sometimes notice that
lancets cause bruising near the testing site. What can I do to
prevent this in my patients?
In general, elderly and
oncology patients tend to bruise very easily. With the proper
technique, the Safety Lancet can minimize this
problem. When performing the blood sampling test, hold the Safety
Lancet between the thumb and forefinger and gently press down. This
will apply an even amount of pressure to both sides of the test
site. Using a three fingered or “syringe” type technique is NOT
recommended, as this applies unnecessary pressure to the center of
the test site.
