TobacAlert Urine Card
TobacAlert determines degree of tobacco smoke exposure by measuring cotinine in urine. Nicotine, main drug in tobacco smoke, is processed by body into cotinine. (require urine sample)
Home test to measure level of exposure to tobacco products
* EASY TO USE * ACCURATE * FAST RESULTS *
Introducing TobacAlert - the easy and accurate way to test for exposure to tobacco. By simply activating the patented TobacAlert test strip in a urine sample, a precise reading of the amount of tobacco in the system is available within 15 minutes.
We also offer a urine Cotinine (COT) drug test. This test will only give you a Positive/Negative answer as to whether a person has tobacco in their system above 200 ng/mL. Cotinine (COT) is the first-stage metabolite of nicotine. This drug test is more cost effective for families, schools, insurance companies and more.
Whether testing a smoker or non-smoker, TobacAlert has multiple applications and uses for:
What is TobacAlert?
TobacAlert is a home test that provides you with a quick, accurate, on-the-spot determination of a person's level of exposure to tobacco products including second hand smoke. It is not intended for medical use.
TobacAlert is an easy to use, fast and accurate urine test strip. It can detect exposure to second hand smoke, use of tobacco products such as cigarettes, pipes, cigars, chewing tobacco; or use of nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) such as nicotine patches, gum and lozenges.
TobacAlert measures levels of cotinine, a byproduct of the body's breakdown of nicotine, the active drug found in tobacco products and tobacco smoke. Cotinine is a widely accepted indicator of recent tobacco product use and exposure, including second hand smoke exposure.
Defection of recent second hand smoke exposure. Potential users include parents of young children, workers in a smoky workplace and other persons concerned about the harmful effects of second hand smoke.
Detection, verification and monitoring of tobacco use status. Potential users include smokers trying to quit, parents worried about whether teenaged child may be smoking, coaches, insurance companies and smoking cessation counselors.
NOTE: TobacAlert is for non-medical use. NicAlert, an FDA approved product, is available from Nymox for medical uses.
How it works
The end of the TobacAlert strip contains gold particles coated with an antibody that selectively binds to cotinine in the urine. After the end of the strip is dipped in urine, the gold particles migrate through specialized "traps" in the strip. The more cotinine bound to a gold particle, the further it is able to migrate along the strip. The reddish bands seen on the developed strip correspond to gold particles caught in a particular trap. TobacAlert is extremely sensitive and can measure amounts as low as 6 nanograms of cotinine per millilitre of urine (6 billionths of a gram in one fifth of a teaspoon).
