Question: Why do I want to take a home test for Alzheimer’s disease?

Answer: Early diagnosis is very important. Increasing your awareness of possible Alzheimer’s disease can help you receive further testing which may lead to potential diagnosis. As a result, you can increase your chance of benefiting from current treatments, improve your quality of life, resolve anxiety, and plan for the future.

Question: If I have 4 or more odors incorrect do I have Alzheimer’s disease?

Answer: No. Failing the test does not necessarily mean you automatically have Alzheimer’s disease. If you have 4 or more odors incorrect you should consult your physician.

Question: If I have less than 4 odors incorrect does that mean I do not have Alzheimer’s disease?

Answer: No. Factors other than smell can be used in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. If you have signs or symptoms consult your physician. (See Signs and Symptoms.)

Question: If I have trouble completing and scoring the test what should I do?

Question: What if I have a stuffy nose from a cold and take the test?

Answer: Taking the test while having nasal congestion is not recommended. Wait until you are free of symptoms.

Question: What should I do if I do not smell anything on the odor strip?

Answer: You must circle an answer for each odor. The test has been scientifically validated and requires a choice.

Question: Can I give my used test to someone else?

Answer: No. The test is a single use test. The microencapsulated odor strip concentration decreases and therefore may affect the results.
