Sensitivity: The test detects at least 2.0 mg hemoglobin/100 ml water.
Accuracy and Precision: Sample (n=20) containing 2.0 mg hemoglobin/100 ml water were repetitively checked and found to be positive each time (100%). A repetitive performance of the test (n=20) on sample devoid of RBC or hemoglobin, gave negative results each time (100%).
" Our
OB/GYN practice has been ordering EZ Detect (stool blood test) now for a few
years, and we are very pleased with the simplicity and accuracy of your product... We feel
giving the stool test to our patients is very essential, and in this case [discussed in the
letter] lifesaving... Thank you for this great tool you provide in helping our patients in
early detection of blood in the stool. We are happy to do business with
you."
Maureen O'Regan, M.D., OB/GYN, Reston, VA
Over the past year I have been fortunate enough to have used the
'EZ DETECT' system
for my family practice in order to facilitate Occult-Blood testing. I can attest to its
accuracy, patient compliance, and excellent results.
John A. Holland, M.D., Family Practice, Newport Beach, CA
"I had the opportunity to try EZ DETECT... I am extremely pleased with the results.
The advantages, such as no diet restrictions, easy user's technique, and relatively sanitary
acceptability, make me believe that this is going to gain much acceptance in the field of
screening for colorectal cancer. "

Total number of patients studied: 105 Total number of specimens tested: 120 Total positives: 28 Total negatives: 92 Percent positives: 23%
Findings:
All patients
with positive Hemoccult(R)
test slides were
positive with EZ Detect(TM)
test tissues.
The EZ Detect(TM)
test was found to be sensitive for upper
gastrointestinal
bleeding. Two patients who had positive EZ Detect(TM)
tests were later found to have gastric ulcers at the time of gastroscopy.
SUPPLEMENTARY CLINICAL STUDY - EZ DETECT(TM) VS. HEMOCCULT(R)
Conclusions:The other apparent discrepancies are easily explained by experimental error or Hemoccult(R) giving false positive or false negative results (as shown in the detailed data)*, which may be attributed to patient noncompliance to dietary restrictions.
COMPARISON OF EZ DETECT(TM) VS. HEMOCCULT(R) II
Patients were randomly selected at Whittier Hospital Medical Center
and Humana West Anaheim Community Hospital for comparison of
the EZ Detect(TM) Test with the
Hemoccult(R) Test. Patients hospitalized
for various conditions were used as subjects for the evaluation.EZ Detect(TM) is an approved test for detecting hidden stool blood that could be caused by a variety of bowel problems including colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, colitis, hemorrhoids, etc. That test requires no diet restrictions (including vitamin C) before or during testing. EZ Detect(TM) was also found to be sensitive for upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
EZ Detect(TM) is superior to the Hemoccult(R) test because of its simplicity, which facilitates better patient compliance. The test is sanitary, easy to use and is performed in the privacy of the home. The user just drops the pad into the toilet bowl after a bowel movement and the result appears within 2 minutes. By contrast, the Hemoccult(R) test is complicated, unsanitary and lengthy because the patient must collect and handle stools, send a stool specimen to a laboratory for analysis, and then wait for the results.
