What is & why test for LH
Luteinizing hormone, or LH, is always present in human urine. Detecting the level of LH in a woman’s urine can help determine when the woman will ovulate. Ovulation is the release of an egg from the ovary. The egg passes into the fallopian tube where it is ready to be fertilized. In order for pregnancy to occur, the egg must be fertilized by sperm within 24 hours after its release. Immediately prior to ovulation, the body produces a large amount of LH. This is known as an "LH surge" and usually takes place in the middle of the menstrual cycle. LH triggers the release of an egg from the ovary. Testing for LH can help a woman predict the time of ovulation and peak fertility. It is during this fertile time that pregnancy is most likely to occur.
The One-Step Ovulation Predictor Tests detect the LH surge in urine, signaling that ovulation is likely to occur in the next 24-36 hours.
LH testing is typically done in the home, using a test purchased OTC or provided by a doctor. A woman would determine when to start testing based on her menstrual cycle length. She would start testing on the designated day and continue testing at the same time each day until the LH Surge was detected. Once the LH surge is detected, ovulation is likely to occur within 24-36 hours and this is the time of peak fertility when conception is most likely to happen.
It is important to note that an LH surge and ovulation may not occur in all cycles for all women. Therefore, not all women would detect their surge during the typical 5day time frame provided by most OTC testing kits.

RESULT INTERPRETATION
Positive: Two lines are visible and the Test Line is the same as or darker than the Reference Line. This means that the LH surge has been detected and ovulation can be expected to happen in the next 24-36 hours.
Negative: Two lines are visible, but the Test Line is lighter than the Reference Line, or there is no Test Line. This means that the LH surge has not been detected and daily testing should be continued.
Invalid: No line in the Reference Line Area indicates an invalid result.
*NOTE: Not every woman ovulates mid-cycle, therefore a positive result may not be seen during the first 5 days of testing and testing should be continued until the LH surge is detected.
